GLORIA 2019 in TIMTOS Intelligent machinery and

manufacturing Innovation Forum

Intelligent machinery and manufacturing are key to industrial upgrade of Taiwan or even the world. Ministry of Science of Technology, Taiwan (MOST); Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) and Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry (TAMI) join forces to facilitate exchange of information between the industry and academia, and integrate 6 Global Research & Industry Alliance (GLORIA) projects to organize the “Intelligent Manufacturing Innovative Application Forum” at Taipei International Machine Tool Show, where observations on technology and trends of intelligent manufacturing, precision metrology, system control, to platform integration, will be presented to explore for enterprises new upgrade opportunities of intelligent manufacturing.

The forum will first feature Chair Professor Jyh-Horng Chou, who is also the Vice President of National Chung Hsing University, to share observations on challenges and trends of recent global development of the machinery industry, hoping domestic machinery industry can strengthen collaboration with the academia and enhance international competitiveness through interdisciplinary development.

Professor Fan-TienCheng of National Cheng Kung University will give a presentation on “Intelligent Manufacturing and Industry 4.1,” exploring how Automatic Virtual Metrology (AVM) can be integrated with AMCoT for different practical applications in various domains. Since a large number of composite materials have been developed in response to commercial needs, Professor Jenq-Shyong Chen of National Chung Hsing University will share on how to utilize supersonic for precision processing of such types of advanced materials; extensive automatic operations require entering a large amount of reference data in advance, and the KORAT technology presented by Associate Professor Yung-Pin Cheng of National Central University can assist integrated automatic test across systems to enhance quality control and efficiency of engineering staff. Productivity 4.0 adopts core technologies including Cyber Physical System and business model of new services, and Professor Wang, Shih-Ming of Chung Yuan Christian University will share on user scenarios and possible integrated technologies, offering enterprises more diverse user scenarios and potential solutions.

In addition to the academia sharing technologies and research results, Assistant Manager Sebastian Chen of Taiwan Futaba Electronics Corporation and President Lin Ting-hao of TANGRAM Technology are both representatives of the industry, and they jointly propose the industry’s needs for intelligent manufacturing—hoping that the academia can launch studies on the optimization of control and management procedures for customized and high-precision production lines, supporting intelligent upgrade of Taiwanese enterprises.

Deputy Director General Chun-Yi Tu of the Department of Academia-Industry Collaboration and Science Park Affairs points out that MOST is launching GLORIA in universities, and has already established 18 GLORIA projects to date. Gathering the research energy of all the colleges and universities, GLORIA helps bridge demand scenarios of industries with suitable research outcomes to enhance competitiveness in the international market. Outcomes of several academic studies in the areas of precision processing and system integration can already be applied commercially, and GLORIA will continue to match enterprises with appropriate technical teams in the future to facilitate the development of Industry 4.0, and actively explore the blue ocean of Taiwan’s intelligent manufacturing and machine tool industries!
